Weeks 14-15 France!!!

France so far has been our funnest country to travel to. Here are photos of some of our highlights from the trip.
Not sure what happened to the photographer here ;)
We made Eiffel Tower models using wafer cookies and frosting. We got the idea from another ECC blogger. Then we found a great recipe by the one and only famous rat Remy from Disney's "Ratatouille". Remy's Eiffel Tower Cookie Sundae

Doodlebug's tower didn't want to stay standing.

Pollywog with her masterpiece.

Yay! It's still standing!

Then we made chocolate truffles. We had more fun making these than eating them. The cocoa powder on the outside didn't taste that great. Even Inchworm didn't want to eat them.

We tried our hand at painting a replica of one of Monet's masterpieces. For using masking tape and finger paints I think we did rather well... for beginners ;)
This one is Pollywog's.

This one is Mama's.

And as you can see Doodlebug was very proud of his.

We watched these movies

Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates
and read these books.
This one was a favorite!
ANATOLE OVER PARIS (Little Rooster)

The Glorious Flight: Across the Channel with Louis Bleriot July 25, 1909

In this book we read the story of the Millers Son.

Around the World in 80 Tales
Count Your Way Through France

In this book we learned what the word symmetrical means and took a rabbit trail to find symmetrical shapes around the house. Then because the kids love Madeline so much we read as many Madeline books as we could get our hands on and watched numerous Madeline movies on netflix.
Madeline
Another favorite!

Mouton's Impossible Dream

We got many laughs out of this one.
Bonaparte

Doodlebug's reader was this book.
Henry and Beezus (Henry Huggins)
He really enjoyed this one and will most likely be reading more of these later in the school year. I just don't understand why they are listed as 2nd grade reading, in my opinion they seem at a higher reading level than that. Anyone know?
We also had a cheese tasting day and tried numerous different types of cheeses. Once again forgot the camera. Doodlebug's favorite was the laughing cow cheese. Pollywog still wasn't feeling that great and said the cheese kind of upset her tummy. She still tried a few though and well had fun. Inchworm of course liked them all whether from his plate or someone elses.
I think that about sums up our travels to France. There were also some websites that we perused through to find information on the Eiffel Tower and Monet. It was by far the best part of our trip around the world to date.

Europe here we come! Weeks 12-13 Norway

While visiting Norway we saw lots of the Northern forests and learned all about the animals that live in these habitats. We listened and danced ( Inchworm enjoyed this part) to "Row, Row, Row, Your Boat" and "Little Frogs". It was kind of a light couple weeks for us since we had quite a bit of sickness going around the house at this time.

The books we did get around to reading were.
Reindeer People, The
Annika's Secret Wish
The Pancake Boy: An Old Norwegian Folk Tale
And a few others I can't quite recall the names of.

Doodlebug's reader for Norway was this book.
Snow Treasure

He didn't really enjoy reading this one as much as I thought he would. We ended up reading alternating chapters towards the end to finish it up. This was a good story in my opinion though.

That about sums it up for our Norway travels. Hope you had fun.

Weeks 9-11 Brazil

I wish I had gotten around to blogging about this earlier as we had a ton of fun learning about Brazil. Here is a photo of our favorite project.

We also had a blast making this recipe http://allrecipes.com/recipe/baklava/ I forgot to take photos that day though :( It was super yummy!

We read these books and some more I can't remember.
Nate Saint On a Wing and a Prayer (Christian Heroes: Then & Now) (Christian Heroes, Then & Now)

Jungle Drum
Welcome to the Green House

Rainforest Animals (Ladders)

We used this book for art and science notebooking.
The kids did some really creative notebooking pages about the rainforest. Here is a photo of two of my favorites. The first is Pollywog's and the second is Doodlebug's.

Pollywog's says
We get medicine from the rain forest.

Doodlebug's says
Do you know the delishous gum you chew? All the good flavorse you have tried? All that gum is from the jungle.

I chose not to correct spelling because he was so proud of his creativity. So we just added those words on our spelling lesson the next week.

I can't remember everything we did these weeks as I wasn't taking as many photos then and hadn't started this blog yet.
Hope you've enjoyed seeing the highlights of our travels to Brazil! Stay tuned for Europe in the weeks to come. Norway, France, Germany, and Italy will be very exciting! :)
